8 Finalists Pitched for Bucks Built Grants Fund

The finalist companies from the fall round of the Bucks Built Grants Fund in partnership with Penn Community Bank.

Eight high-potential early-stage businesses will pitch for funding in the upcoming round of the Bucks Built Grants Fund.

Following the pitches, scheduled for Friday, October 6th, 2023, four recipients will be selected to each receive $10,000 in grants, funded by Penn Community Bank.

The 8 finalist businesses span several industries and have founders or teams already based and/or operating in Bucks County:

  • WerkWeek - On demand healthcare staffing platform for support personnel.

  • Klippie - Klippie utilizes the power of artificial intelligence to find the best video clips from long form video content such as podcasts, webinars, speeches & lectures. 

  • BioVeraKendeja Collective - Platform for artists of African descent to exhibit, sell, and contextualize their artwork.

  • Bungja - Automated note-taking for psychotherapy.

  • Pink Clover - Transforms data into the answers Essential Service Providers need to make informed decisions and improve the safety and security of their citizens. 

  • Athletes Untapped - Sports tech startup connecting parents & young athletes with vetted private sports coaches for 1-on-1 training.

  • Estate '98 - Ultra-concentrated specialty coffee.

  • GG Optic - Premier Polarized Sunglasses delivered at a fair price.

The finalists were screened from a field of 51 applicants for this round which closed September 25th. The competitiveness of the applicant pool was tremendous.

The eight finalists will be evaluated by a screening panel of investors, entrepreneurs, community leaders, and others with an interest in promoting the small businesses ecosystem in Bucks County. In the week leading up to their pitches, all finalists receive preparation and practice sessions with Bucks Built Program Advisor and Angel Investor, Mark Mitchell, and Executive Director, Jonathan Mercer.

This round’s Screening Panel:

  • Kelly Boyle - Community Relations Manager, Penn Community Bank

  • Tracy Timby - Vice President, Workforce and Strategic Partnerships, Bucks County Community College

  • Rick Battaglia - Senior Vice President, Business Banking Manager, Penn Community Bank

  • Omar Mencin - Managing Director, Tech Investment Group, Ben Franklin Technology Partners

  • James Calcagnil - Founder & CEO, Liquid Limbs

This round’s grant awardees will be selected and announced at an expo-style event designed to bring the local startup community together on October 19, 2023, at Linksz Pavilion on the Bucks County Community College Newtown, PA. Registration for the expo is open here.
